World Snooker Championship LIVE: Scores and latest updates as Judd Trump and Ronnie O’Sullivan reach quarter-finals
Ronnie O’Sullivan’s bid for an eighth World Snooker Championship title continues as the 48-year-old completes the first session of his best-of-25 clash with Stuart Bingham for a place in the semi-finals.
O’Sullivan defeated Ryan 13-7 in the second round on Monday, before revealing that “intermittent fasting” was playing a key role in his Crucible bid and giving him energy for the 17-day marathon in Sheffield.
The seven-time champions recovered from a 3-1 defeat against 2015 winners Bingham this afternoon to finish level at 4-4. It’s the same position Judd Trump finds himself in against Jak Jones after the opening session, with the two returning to the table tonight.
Last night John Higgins won a thriller with Mark Allen to book his place in the quarter-finals. Higgins trailed for much of the match, but managed to hold on and force a decisive frame, where he produced a stunning breakaway – triggered by a do-or-die double red on the table – to defeat Allen and claim victory. The consequences of that victory looked to be on show in the quarter-finals this afternoon when Kyren Wilson won the first half of the opening session 4-0, but Higgins responded with two strong century breaks and goes into tomorrow’s game trailing just by 5-3.

Judd Trump 5-6 Jak Jones
Ah, not for long… Jones misses the cut and the red goes over the green pocket for Trump to pocket. He then pockets the blue leaving Jones needing to snooker with Trump 36 points ahead at 55-19 and just 35 available.

Judd Trump 5-6 Jak Jones
Trump approaches the finish line but he misses a red as he stretches across the table, trying to stuff it into the top corner pocket. Trump leads 49-19 with two reds remaining (one of which is tied to the left pad), which isn’t easy for Jones, but he’s still alive in this frame.

Judd Trump 5-6 Jak Jones
Trump is looking tidy here, starting to get into his breaking groove after those disjointed frames that started tonight. But he tries a cannon on two reds in the center of the table and it goes a little wrong.
He had a complicated cut in the yellow spot (in the black spot) in the left corner. He can! And he’s back in good standing. A few yellows mean the score wasn’t good, so he potted a lot of balls, but the break is only at 40, with three reds to go.

Judd Trump 5-6 Jak Jones
It is a rarity, as the black ends up in the yellow spot and the yellow in the black spot. Not ideal for scoring! Trump combines some reds with blues and pinks, so he eradicates Jones’ small lead and starts building his own.
The range exceeds 30 red dots still in the open – some are tied up near cushions to worry about later.

Judd Trump 5-6 Jak Jones
Jones was in trouble with Trump’s safety shot and feels the only chance he has is a pot shot on the left rail. High tariff and that makes noise. Trump has a pot straight to the left corner and this is a golden opportunity to score big points.

Judd Trump 5-6 Jak Jones
Jones can only take the lead to 19-0 as he gets out of position and rolls behind the yellow. Good security return from Trump.
In the other table, Maguire won the first game after the break to reduce their deficit to 9-4 and ensure the game did not end with a session to spare.

Judd Trump 5-6 Jak Jones
Trump gives four penalty points for hitting the rose after playing pool. But both men are short of pots now. Jones sees a three-ball plant going to the far jaw and Trump then shakes a red one with the rest.
But Jones finds a cut to the right middle, so he’s back at the table with a chance to build a lead.

Frame 12 – the last one before the mid-session break. And an early mistake by Trump in leaving a pot for Jones in the corner. However, the Welshman only manages to make 8 before missing a tricky red into the left corner, going over the pack.
He’s lucky, because the black runs safely and he doesn’t leave a drinkable red.

FRAME! Judd Trump 5-6 Jak Jones
Good, brave stuff from Trump. Three visits were made, the last being an interval of 32, but he wins frame 11 to reduce his deficit to a single frame at 6-5. A good response after losing the last frame of the marathon.

Judd Trump 4-6 Jak Jones
Trump wants to finally overcome this situation. The table was never easy for him, but he tried hard and made good pots. He pulls a nice pink to the left half and his advantage is beyond 50 points now.
He should win from here.
