Italy: Airport workers plan nationwide strike
Unionized workers at several Italian airports plan strike July, 5th.
Airports affected include Bologna, Crotone, Lamezia Terme, Milan, Reggio Calabria, Rome and Venice, with strikes taking place at different times of the day. Flight disruptions are likely.
Ireland: Pilots continue indefinite strike
Pilots for IrelandFlag carrier Aer Lingus began an indefinite “work by the book” strike on June 26. This means they will not work outside their set hours or accept changes to their schedules. Around 400 flights have been cancelled until July 7th.
Ongoing wage negotiations have received formal intervention from the country’s Labor Court, with a hearing scheduled for Wednesday, July 3.
Affected passengers will be notified via text message or email, but if you have a reservation with the airline, it’s best to check the status of your flight before leaving home.
UK: Gatwick braces for disruption in July
Workers at London’s Gatwick Airport will go on strike later this month in a dispute over pay.
Around 300 security and passenger services staff to go on strike July 12-14 It is July 18-21. This may delay baggage screening and affect passengers who require special assistance.
Other actions may occur during the busy period Summer Vacation if the dispute is not resolved.
Strikes in France: Could strikes affect the Paris Olympics?
Members of the CGT-RATP union have announced a seven-month strike notice from February 5 to September 9, which could affect Ile-de-France buses and subway network – including during this summer’s Olympic Games.
However, the French Senate approved a bill on April 9 to allow the state to ban transport strikes for set periods each year to avoid disruptions during major events such as Paris 2024. It also requires more advance notice of strikes and greater minimum service obligations.
The bill faces opposition and needs to be approved by the French National Assembly before becoming law.
Workers at the state-owned public transport company say they are on strike over wages.
Netherlands: Public transport strikes planned for September
A public transport strike has been announced in the largest cities in the Netherlands in September 12thwith more possible exits.
ANNOUNCEMENTIt comes ahead of the Cabinet’s budget proposal, which workers hope will include plans to allow those in physically demanding jobs to retire early.
Services in AmsterdamThe Hague and Rotterdam will be impacted.
