LAKEWOOD – Fredonia and Olean can claim the top tennis seeds in the Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association entering the Section VI Championships.
Fredonia’s Jackson Spangler won the CCAA singles crown on Friday by virtue of a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Southwestern’s Brayden Haaksma at the Lakewood YMCA.
Meanwhile, Isaac Moses and Cavan Boutillette of Olean defeated Trey and Fletcher DeMink of Maple Grove 6-7, 6-2, 6-2 to win the doubles title.
Spangler advanced to the championship match by virtue of a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Southwestern’s Alex Watkins, and Haaksma qualified to face Spangler by defeating Maple Grove’s Jack Sherry 6-0, 6-0.
In the singles consolation match, Watkins defeated Sherry 6-0, 6-1.
In doubles play, Moses and Boutillette defeated Nathan Cresanti and Keegan Rishel of Maple Grove 6-1, 6-0 in the semifinal before defeating the DeMinks in the championship match.
The DeMinks earned a spot in the final after defeating Olean’s Alex Ash-West and Alex Linderman 6-0, 6-1.
In the doubles consolation match, Linderman and Ash-West defeated Cresanti and Rishel 6-2, 6-4.
All CCAA singles and doubles players will now advance to the Section VI Tournament, which will be held at Orchard Park High School on May 22.
