T20 World Cup Champions Team India Arrive Home Live Updates: Rohit Sharma-led Team India return home after T20 World Cup triumph, land in Delhi on board chartered flight

World Cup-winning Indian T20 cricket team arrives home Live Updates: The T20 World Cup-winning Indian cricket team will take part in an open-top bus roadshow followed by a felicitation ceremony here at the Wankhede Stadium on Thursday.

The Indian team is expected to arrive in New Delhi on Thursday morning (6:20 am) after departing from Grantley Adams International Airport in Barbados on a chartered flight with a special callsign – AIC24WC – Air India Champions 24 World Cup.

The Indian squad’s departure was postponed due to Hurricane Beryl.

However, the team, its support staff, players’ families, some board officials and the Indian media finally managed to leave Barbados on the chartered flight arranged by the BCCI on Wednesday morning (4.50 am local time).

“The team has left Barbados on a special Air India flight booked by BCCI. The Indian journalists who were stranded there (Barbados) are also coming on the same flight along with BCCI president (Roger Binny) and secretary (Jay Shah) who are making all the arrangements,” BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla told PTI.

“The flight will land at Delhi airport tomorrow at 6 am. The team will meet PM Narendra Modi at 11 am at his residence. After that, the team will fly to Mumbai where a ceremony has been organised.

“There will be a road show starting from Nariman Point in an open-top bus and later we will honour and felicitate the players with a cash prize of Rs 125 crore as announced,” he added.

The Indian team will arrive in Mumbai at 4 pm and is expected to reach the National Centre for the Performing Arts (NCPA) where they will begin a two-hour open-top bus parade.

The open-top bus parade will begin at approximately 5 pm from NCPA, near the famous Nariman Point, and will last for about two hours before reaching Wankhede Stadium.

A felicitation event to honor the players and squad members has been scheduled between 7:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., after which the players will depart for their hotel.

BCCI secretary Shah welcomed all fans to join the victory parade on Thursday evening.

“Join us for the Victory Parade in honour of Team India’s World Cup victory! Head to Marine Drive and Wankhede Stadium on 4th July from 5pm to celebrate with us! Save the date! #TeamIndia,” Shah wrote on Twitter.

India’s victorious captain Rohit Sharma also took to social media to welcome fans.

“We want to enjoy this special moment with all of you. So, let’s celebrate this victory with a victory parade at Marine Drive & Wankhede on July 4th from 5 pm onwards.

“He’s coming home,” Rohit posted on ‘X’.

A felicitation event at Wankhede Stadium is also planned for the Indian team members.

A similar show was staged here 17 years ago when Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s team defeated arch-rivals Pakistan in the final of the inaugural 2007 World T20 in South Africa.

Rohit and his men clinched the title after a thrilling seven-run win over South Africa in the final on Saturday at the Kensington Oval.
