Study: More than half of companies lack AI innovation skills


There is a vital human skills gap that needs to be addressed as companies look to take full advantage of AI and cloud technologies.

According to a study by SoftwareOne, a leading global software and cloud solutions company, there is a great need to reduce the human-machine divide. The company highlights that 97% of companies are prioritizing the qualification of their workforce.

As AI continues to disrupt businesses and services around the world, companies are scrambling to get the latest models to better serve their customers. However, there is a growing skills gap that threatens business operations and could put organizations at risk of falling behind in the global AI race.

Combining employee skills with innovation

Organizations are at a critical point when considering how to remain competitive when it comes to AI.

Currently, the biggest problem for companies in their digital transformation efforts is ensuring that employee skills growth matches the rapid pace of innovation. According to SoftwareOne, more than half (53%) of companies surveyed do not currently have the AI ​​skills needed to drive rapid innovation.

Similarly, 50% of organizations report that they are currently struggling to find AI-skilled employees.

SoftwareOne’s research underscores an urgent reality: prioritizing close collaboration between human workers and advanced technologies is vital amid a growing cloud skills gap and apprehension around AI. This relationship is expected to redefine the dynamics within a company, with 97% of organizations already planning to prioritize improving the skills of their workforce.

There is currently a significant shortage of cloud skills. According to the report, this gap increased individual workloads for 62% of respondents and, as a result, had repercussions for companies, including staff burnout and high turnover rates in specific departments.

Notably, the report cites that more than a quarter of global IT managers (27%) are considering leaving their jobs as a direct consequence of growing skills gaps. In connection with this, 84% of companies consider IT retention issues to be a significant challenge, caused in part by internal team conflicts.
