Snowy the farm cat likes to live life on the wild side
“We adopted him in December and just this last week his confidence has grown amazingly and now we are starting to see his personality.
“After he spent the first few weeks in the shed getting used to where he was, he found an empty shed somewhere else and although we didn’t see him, we would find empty bowls, so I knew he was still dependent on us for food. .
“Now he’s back in the shed we set up for him and it looks like it’s a permanent move.
“He seems to want to be our friend, as now he will come to greet me with a little meow and even take food from my hand.
“I haven’t pet him yet because he’s still very nervous, but that’s what we were hoping for with Archie.”
But the process doesn’t always work well.
Angel was rehomed after coming into the care of the RSPCA Radcliffe Animal Center in Nottinghamshire last year. But just six months later, he was returned after fights with other cats in the area left Angel with serious injuries, which his new owners “felt obligated to pay for.”
Cats can often be misunderstood
Lyn Jarrett, from the shelter, said: “They tried keeping him indoors to try and calm his behavior towards other cats, but this left him stressed and unhappy. So they felt they had no choice but to return him to the center in the hopes that we could find him a rural home away from other cats.”
“Cats can often be misunderstood,” Jarrett added. “Often they don’t need to be around other cats. In fact, being around other cats can cause a lot of stress and upset for some, as they feel they need to defend their own territory to feel safe.”
After a few months back at the shelter, Angel was adopted by the owners of a converted farm “surrounded by fields.”
“Angel is loving his new life, looking for people to keep him company or spending his energy playing and exploring – it’s his choice.”
“For cats like Angel, an indoor lifestyle is not always suitable and an alternative lifestyle is needed, which we are so happy to have found.”
