Saginaw area sports highlights: Frankenmuth softball keeps rolling


After beating Alma in a Tri-Valley Conference, Frankenmuth’s softball team came out of conference play to earn its 25th win of the season.

The Eagles, ranked fifth in Division 2, earned a 7-2 victory Thursday over Otisville-LakeVille, which earned honorable mention in Division 3.

Chloe Compau struck out 15 batters to earn the win, adding two hits and two base hits.

Izzy Bernthal led the offense with three of his own and two RBIs, while Payton Schafsnitz led off the game with a home run. She finished with two hits, two RBIs, two runs scored and a walk.

Frankenmuth is 25-6 overall and undefeated in the TVC after defeating Alma 12-2 and 18-0. The Eagles are 8-0 heading into Tuesday’s matchup against rival Freeland.

Softball

Swan Valley 14, Bay City John Glenn 2: After scoring a run in the bottom of the ninth to win Tuesday’s game against John Glenn 15-14, the Vikings came back to close out the doubleheader with a 14-2 victory on Thursday. Milagro Perez, who had two hits and a home run, earned the win for the Vikings, giving up three hits and a walk and striking out three. Kennady Tiitola had three hits and two RBIs to lead the offense, with Hailey Koch adding two hits. Izzy Coffel paced Swan Valley in Tuesday’s win with three hits, including a triple.

Midland High 16-4, Lapeer 1-1: Grace Schloop drove in four runs with two doubles to lead Midland High to the opening win. Addie Edwards hit a three-run homer, while Kailey Cassiday, Hayden Purvis and Morgan Stewart each added two hits. Taylor Sequin struck out five to earn the win. Stewart hit a three-run homer in the second game, driving in four runs on two hits for the Chemics. Schloop tied his record for strikeouts in a single game with 17 to earn the victory. Schloop allowed two hits and one run with no walks in seven innings.

Baseball

Heritage 4-2, Mount Pleasant 0-6: Wyatt Vondette threw a shutout in the first game, leading Heritage to a split in the Saginaw Valley League doubleheader. Vondette gave up five hits and no walks, striking out five. Jace Sullivan led the Hawks with a hit and RBI. Sullivan was tagged for loss in the second game, allowing seven hits and no earned runs while striking out six and walking three for the 9-13-2 Hawks. Sullivan, Jack Thompson and Hayden Prime had hits for Heritage.

Midland High 8-10, Lapeer 0-0: Brett Faccio gave up just one hit in five innings to earn the win in the opener, striking out 10 and walking four. Liam Heinz led the charge with two hits, while Adam Haag drove in two runs. In the second game, Midland scored six runs in the first inning en route to a Saginaw Valley League sweep. Grayson Lampi hit a home run, while Eli Kell and Taber Edwards-Benner hit back-to-back homers. Liam Heinz improved to 5-1 as he finished five innings.

Bullock Creek 10-9, Millington 1-3: Bo Schwartz struck out seven hits, giving up just one hit to secure the victory in Game One. Schwartz also led the Bullock Creek offense with three hits, including two doubles. Palmer Richards added two hits. Mason Strayer led the Lancers in the second game with three hits, while Bo Schwartz added two hits. Troy Limmer went 2-for-3 with a triple and three RBIs, while Jaxon Flowers struck out eight to earn the win.
