Rescue charity suspends Tik Tok videos after ‘bullying and trolling’ for euthanizing cat

Shropshire Cat Rescue said it received “particularly nasty comments and judgement” from another cat care group after posting a video on the social media platform.

It followed the fate of a cat called ‘Fluffy’, who the charity was forced to put to sleep after the animal’s “physical and mental health” deteriorated.

In a statement on her Facebook page, Marion Micklewright, president and shelter manager for the registered charity, said: “Unfortunately, Fluffy was put to sleep on Thursday 2nd May under veterinary advice due to the deterioration of her health. mental and physical health due to weight loss. , stress and fear.

“Quality of life is Shropshire Cat Rescue’s top priority and this includes mental and physical health.”

She added that the charity had a “heavy workload” and was “not always able to report losses or respond to requests for information as quickly as we would like”.

“Therefore, regrettably, we will be suspending video posting on TikTok for the foreseeable future,” she said.

In a previous video, the charity explained that it did not always advertise cats that were euthanized due to the additional “heartache” it caused volunteers who were forced to euthanize cats.

In a statement to the Shropshire Star, Ms Micklewright said the charity would not “tolerate bullying and trolling”.

She said: “Shropshire Cat Rescue has been the victim of trolling across all its social media channels by people intent on doing so much damage to the charity’s reputation and ongoing work.

“Unfortunately, this all comes from another cat rescue who disagrees with a recent decision made by the charity to put to sleep a cat suffering from a number of physical and mental health problems.

“While Shropshire Cat Rescue understands that everyone has different views on cat care, we will not tolerate bullying and trolling, especially when directed at individuals within our charity.

“It’s a sad world we live in when charities with similar causes act so brutally and cruelly towards each other. SCR would like to thank its wonderful supporters and volunteers for their understanding and commitment as we fight to help cats. and kittens who need our help so much.”
