The first Winnipeg International Cat Film Festival will take place in June. This fundraiser for the non-profit Cats Advocacy Team of Manitoba Inc. (‘CATS Manitoba’) is the perfect event for cat lovers and movie buffs!

The film festival will be held at 7pm on June 25th at the Park Theater (698 Osborne St.). Gates will open at 6pm

This inaugural feline film festival will celebrate the joy and beauty of cats through an evening of short films, with 14 entries from filmmakers from around the world. The exciting programming includes beautiful animations, comedies, mysteries and documentaries. There’s even a local film telling the story behind Winnipeg’s own Cleocatra Cat Café included in the lineup.

The films share a collective love for cats and each showcase the unique ways felines make life better, from heartwarming and comedic stories to the vital work of cat rescue organizations working to save lives. This one-night-only event is being organized by volunteers to celebrate the cat culture and passion of Winnipeg’s cat community.

A central goal of CATS Manitoba is to raise funds to support existing cat rescue organizations across the province, who often face crippling emergency veterinary bills that can compromise their vital work of rescuing, fostering and adopting cats and kittens. This work is especially important during the spring months, kitten season and when the need is greatest. I’m told local rescues have been experiencing two kitten seasons this year because of the warmer winter.
