You should always expect the unexpected on social media as it is full of surprising content, like this heartwarming video of a cat and dog in love.
The clip was shared by @kayaandbernie, the TikTok account of a dog named Kaya and a cat named Bernard. The “cute couple” footage has received more than 351,000 views since April 11.
Kaya is a Samoyed dog and Bernard is a tabby cat, who was introduced to canines as a puppy. The text placed over the clips says that “love started flowing” from the day they met, and now they “don’t even hide it anymore.” Now, the owners see the passion every day as Bernard cares for his canine companion, and they also eat, sleep and play together.
In the caption, the owner asks: “Is this normal?”
These days, it’s quite common for dogs and cats to get along, but sometimes felines are just happy to engage on their own terms.
Pet food company Purina says proper introductions are crucial if owners want species to get along.
“Dogs and cats are much more likely to become lifelong friends if they know each other from the beginning, as they can grow together and learn how the other wants them to behave,” adds the Purina website.

However, if an owner decides to introduce adult animals, it is important to take it slowly and not force friendship.
It is helpful to provide cats with quiet spaces to get away from the often more energetic dogs. These areas allow cats to feel safe and more receptive to friendships.
Additionally, ensuring dogs are well exercised is crucial. A tired puppy is less likely to chase a cat, which can facilitate a smoother introduction and relationship-building process between the two pets.
In an ideal world, all dogs and cats would get along like these two, but sometimes, pets might need a little extra work. The bond can take days, weeks or even years to build. In some cases, this may not even happen.
To date, the video, perfectly paired with the song “Just the Two of Us” by Grover Washington Jr., has more than 36 thousand likes and more than 240 comments.
One user wrote: “They are just skin friends with each other.”
“They made my day!” posted another.
A third commenter added: “I witnessed this with a kitten I brought home at 5-6 weeks old and my female Pitbull took care of her and the behavior was the same.”
A fourth commented: “It’s about protecting each other.”
