New Richmond Youth Sports Association honors slain Doerman brothers with new field name
Laura Doerman officially opened the newly designated CHC Memorial Field at the New Richmond Youth Sports Association in honor of her fallen boys Saturday morning. The boys’ father, Chad Doerman, was charged by prosecutors with their murders. His trial is scheduled to begin in July. Coach Dwayne Kuhn coached Clayton Doerman in baseball for three years. “Today we are here to show our love for these incredible children: Clayton, Hunter and Chase,” Kuhn said holding back tears. The Memorial Field flag flies over center field, where they will join Clayton, Hunter and Chase’s old baseball jerseys in watching generations of young athletes for years to come. “These three boys loved each other intensely and loved the game of baseball,” Kuhn said. “The word tragedy was not used here today. Instead, it was a celebration of baseball, filled with the joy of kids playing,” said Kristin Bennett, president of the New Richmond Youth Sports Association. “It’s great. It’s great for kids to have fun and play and have fun with new friends.” “This community has chosen to remember the Doerman boys not for the way they died, but for the way they lived,” Bennett continued “It’s a great way to honor our boys for playing ball. and play with their children. “The New Richmond community present at the ceremony repeatedly expressed the sentiment that the field will now live as a piece of heaven with its own angels in the outfield. They also expressed hope that the healing power of laughter and. the joy of future children playing in the field can overcome any evils that may have occurred in the community in the past.
