Meghan Trainor Recalls ‘Horrible’ Miscarriage Scare She Had During TV Interview
Meghan Trainor is opening up about a “nightmare” experience that occurred while she was pregnant with her second son, Barry.
Appearing on Mythical Kitchen’s “Last Meals” last week, Trainor told food journalist Josh Scherer that she was convinced she had a miscarriage while sitting for an interview with Ryan Seacrest in late 2022.
The Grammy winner said she and her husband, actor Daryl Sabara, had been trying to conceive a child for weeks before their Seacrest chat. When she started bleeding shortly before an appearance on the “Tonight Show” in October 2022, about a month earlier, however, she believed it was her period.
On the morning of Trainor’s interview with Seacrest, a pregnancy test came back positive.
“That morning, I was thrilled, radiant with joy. I videotaped it,” she recalled. “I did interviews and they said, ‘How are you?’ And I said, ‘I’m thriving.’ I was so happy.”
Moments before going on air with Seacrest, she realized she was “gushing blood” to the point of “ruining a chair.”
“I say, ‘Oh no,’ and they say, ‘OK, Ryan Seacrest is on,” she said. “Go!'”
Trainor said she managed to keep it together while talking to Seacrest, but the moment she turned off her computer, she told the team, “I think I’m having an abortion right now.”
After excusing herself to go to the bathroom, she added, “I was like, ‘Okay, I had a baby this morning and now they’re gone.'”
After the incident, Trainor continued to take pregnancy tests, which came back positive. After a blood test and a follow-up appointment with her doctor, she discovered that she was, in fact, 10 weeks pregnant — meaning her baby was conceived shortly before her appearance on the “Tonight Show.”
“It was horrible and then amazing,” she joked.
Trainor and Sabara welcomed their second child, Barry, in July last year. The couple also share a 3-year-old son, Riley.
These days, Trainor — who is scheduled to kick off her Timeless Tour in Cincinnati, Ohio, in September — has come to view Barry as a “small miracle.”
“Every time I look at him, I think, ‘How are you here?’” she said.
