Jak Jones vs Kyren Wilson LIVE: World Snooker Championship scores and updates from unlikely Crucible final
Qualifier Jak Jones will have to fight back after Kyren Wilson made a dominant start to a surprise World Snooker Championship final.
The opening session of the Crucible Theatre’s best-of-35 play, held over two days, was controlled from start to finish by Wilson, opening with an excellent 129 and scoring freely throughout with a nervous Jones unable to find his flow . With some uncharacteristically loose safety play from the Welshman providing him with regular opportunities to build breaks, Wilson showed his clean cue to win the first seven frames of the match before Jones finally got on the board in the final frame of the afternoon session to progress. . 7-1.
Unheralded Jones, who defeated former world champion Stuart Bingham 17-12 in last night’s semi-final, entered as an underdog but showed his talent by defeating Judd Trump in this tournament. Wilson, in turn, defeated David Gilbert in the other semi-final and the 32-year-old Englishman is close to ending his great title drought, after showing a lot of potential at the beginning of his career.

Jake Jones speaks
“I am absolutely exhausted. If I had gotten a decent night’s sleep last night, I could have gotten something done this morning. It’s a miracle I’m still at it. I hope to get a good night’s sleep tonight and fly out tomorrow.”

Kyren Wilson 11-6 Jak Jones
Jones tries to break the stalemate with a bold, bold one-two from across the table into the yellow pocket – he swings and hits the jaws and bounces out!
Wilson will certainly hit the frame…he does! Wilson punches the air, shakes Jones’ hand and leaves the arena. Jones looks desolate.

Kyren Wilson 10-6 Jak Jones
This security exchange is very tense and the audience is completely immersed in each scene.
Wilson offers a rueful smile as Jones has a bit of luck with a shot that sends the black close to the green pocket, but safe. Wilson’s next safety leaves half a chance for Jones, who tackles it but slows it down too much.
He leaves Wilson a similar chance, but also hits too much! We carry on. There’s so much at stake in this nigga

Kyren Wilson 10-6 Jak Jones
Wilson rocks the brown and blue, but misses the mid-length pink! Thus, Jones arrives at the table with only pink and black on the table, leading by 11 points.
Jones takes the thinnest cut of the pink in the green pocket… but misses! Now Wilson is going to try the same shot on the pink, and he succeeds!
Wilson has a tough black in place, with the cue ball near the corner pocket, to win the frame… he hits the jaw and is out! My God.
It works securely and therefore this frame is all black.

Now then. Wilson puts Jones in a corner, and that slate isn’t done and dusted yet. Jones does brilliantly and hits the yellow coming off two pads, but a moment later he’s in another snooker and this time Jones completely misses the yellow as he tries to parry!
Wilson pockets the yellow and green and suddenly he can steal the frame!

Kyren Wilson 10-6 Jak Jones
Jones pockets the red and the tough black that follows!
Yellow hits the jaws from a distance, so Wilson comes back to the table needing snooker and all colors to win the match, or else it will be 10-7 overnight.

Kyren Wilson 10-6 Jak Jones
Jones begins to dispatch reds and blacks with confidence. He reaches the final red needing to pocket, one more color, to leave Wilson needing snooker. It’s a difficult pot, on the left side…

Kyren Wilson 10-6 Jak Jones
Wilson had 34 points on the board before reaching a critical point at halftime, needing to pot a red and split the pack. He does this very well, but he spins the cue ball against his middle jaw joint and it bounces up! That wasn’t in the plan.
He tries to keep the counter alive, taking on a difficult green, but shoots wide of the left center pocket, and Jones returns to the table in a great position to respond.

Kyren Wilson 10-6 Jak Jones
Wilson leaves the arena for an extended period of time, perhaps just trying to break Jones’ rhythm.
It works, because when he returns, Jones makes a bad break-off, leaving the cue ball near the baulk line, and Wilson hits a red for the first chance of the frame.

Kyren Wilson 10-6 Jak Jones
All Kyren Wilson did in this frame was interrupt. Jak Jones potted a wonderful long red and never looked back, moving through the table confidently on his way to a likely century break… but that doesn’t happen as he stays out of position in the 90s.
He won’t mind that, though. Jones wins another frame!
