The boos said it all.
When Aayden Gallagher crossed the finish line Saturday to become the Oregon 6A girls 200 meter state champion, the crowd booed loudly.
And they booed again when Gallagher, a sophomore from McDaniel High in Portland, stepped onto the podium to receive the winner’s medal.
But they applauded when the runner-up’s name was announced.
It was a very unusual reaction to the outcome of a state athletic competition, but it could end up being historic.
Because the reason Gallagher was such an unpopular winner is that the sprinter is a transgender woman born a biological male with demonstrably superior physiology to her female competitors.
In fact, as viral videos of the race showed, Gallagher towered over the vast majority of other runners, displaying far greater height, power and speed that mocked any pretense of fairness or equality.
Gallagher won the 200 meters in 23.82 seconds, one of the fastest times in state history.
For women, that is – not for men.
The runner-up was Roosevelt sophomore Aster Jones, the younger sister of University of Oregon track standout Lily Jones and a rising star in women’s track and field, who won the 100 meters.
She would have expected to win this 200 meter race as well, and in fact would have won it if not for the presence of a biological male.
Despite initially leading, Jones was surprised by a rising Gallagher.
It was like watching Usain Bolt compete in the women’s 200 meters and annihilate current world champion Shericka Jackson.
He ran in 19.19 seconds, while Jackson’s fastest time was 21.41, more than two seconds slower.
Not because Bolt is a “better” runner, but because he has bigger, stronger, faster male biology, which is why the sexes are separated in athletics.
And that’s why it’s so unfair for trans athletes to compete against women.
World Athletics has already concluded this and banned them, but many lower-level US sporting bodies have been shamefully slow to follow suit.
Why?
Simple: state-sponsored moral cowardice.
The Oregon High School Activities Association (OSAA) has a policy for transgender participation in high school sports that says: “OSAA strives to allow students to participate in the athletic program or activities of their consistently affirmed gender identity , while providing a fair and safe environment for all students…rules like this promote harmony and fair competition.”
What a load of hypocritical nonsense – t.
As Gallagher’s victory and the crowd’s hostile response proved, this absurd policy is, in reality, promoting exactly the opposite: disharmony and unfair competition.
Gallagher has only been competing in track and field for two months, but she is already reportedly the fastest “girl” to ever come out of Portland, Oregon.
It’s a scam.
As for the supposed “fair and safe environment” that the OSAA aims to provide with its transgender policy, Gallagher has needed security at his hotel and athletic field over the past few days.
There was even a sheriff on the track in case she was attacked, such was the level of anger that grew among spectators at the obvious injustice of the situation.
Does this seem safe to you?
The mother of another runner in the race accused Gallagher of “taking places away from our girls, and he doesn’t deserve that, he needs to be with the men. I don’t care if he’s transgender, you can have your own opinion and do whatever you want, but you have no right to take anything away from these girls. Your emotions are important too.”
I understand that mother’s frustration, but if Aayden Gallagher wants to be called “she,” that’s fine with me.
Trans women deserve to be treated with respect and kindness and to have the same human rights to justice and equality that we all enjoy.
Preferred pronouns do not affect these rights.
But what’s not OK with me is when trans rights erode or destroy women’s rights to justice and equality, as we see increasingly happening in women’s sport.
Not even when anyone who dares to challenge this nonsense is intimidated into silence.
Surprisingly, the mother said that many parents were too afraid to speak out for fear that they would violate OSAA rules on discrimination and not only disqualify their children from competing, but also be banned from participating in events.
“It’s not fair,” she said. “Why have transgender and LGBTQ (activists) taken away so many rights from women? We fought so hard for years and here they are taking it from us in sports, from girls who don’t deserve it.”
I totally agree.
No one should take away Aayden Gallagher’s right to compete as an athlete in America.
But not against women.
Gallagher should compete against other biological males or there should be a new open category established for trans athletes.
What happened at Heyward Field in Oregon on Saturday cannot keep happening, or the hopes and dreams of every young female athlete in the country will be destroyed at the altar of morally bankrupt virtue-signaling trash.
