soul mask is an open-world survival game, but a warning from CampFire Studio about scale would have been nice. You can spend hours traveling from one corner of the map to another, even if you have a mount. Considering how easy it is to lose wood, logs, clay, and other belongings along the way, it’s best to play it safe and learn to travel fast. That being said, you can’t just climb a tower and activate a fast travel point in soul mask. Instead, you must activate or create your own Portals. In this guide, I’ll cover everything you need to know about fast travel in soul mask.
How to travel fast in soul mask
You can travel quickly in soul mask using anyone Personal Portals or Mysterious Portals.
In general, Personal portals offer flexibility for short distances but comes with inventory and assembly limitations. On the other hand, Mysterious portals are fantastic for long-distance travel without the hassle of inventory restrictions, but requires you to find and activate specific locations.
Below, you can find a breakdown of what each Portal option offers and how to unlock them in soul mask:
Personal portals in soul mask
Personal portals are player-placed teleporters which allow you to instantly travel between two points of your choice in soul mask. Unlike Mystery Portals, you can set them up wherever you want, which makes them incredibly flexible for short to medium distances.
Pros:
- You can place Personal Portals wherever you want, making them perfect for creating shortcuts between frequently visited locations.
- Once set up, using them is as simple as pressing a button.
Cons:
- You cannot have any items in your inventory when teleporting. The items in your hot bar or equipped gear are fine, but everything else should be empty.
- You cannot teleport with deployed mounts. They need to be stored before you can use the Portal.
- The portal pieces are heavy, so make sure you have a mount to carry them out of the dungeon.
How to Unblock Personal Portals
You can get personal portals at soul mask per collecting pieces from specific dungeons such as Ancient Ruins and Holy Ruins.
Each Portal requires three pieces to assembleoften guarded by difficult enemies or hidden behind puzzles within the dungeon.
Make sure you are prepared to fight or resolve each part. Most dungeons are designed to work with bronze equipment. That said, you’ll be fine if you face them with one or two other players.
Consider running it multiple times to collect iron chunks and upgrade to iron weapons at consciousness level 35. The final boss can be quite challenging without them. Don’t forget to bring top-notch foods like fried tacos, smoked ham, steak, and fried pumpkin slices.
When you have three or six pieces, take them back to the bonfire and set up a Personal Portal.
Mysterious portals in soul mask
Mysterious portals are predefined teleportation points spread across various biomes of the soul mask. These portals are usually found in important locations, such as near important bosses or landmarks, and are great for long-distance travel. There are a total of six Mysterious Portals spread across the entire map.
Pros:
- You can carry items and ride mounts through Mystery Portals, making them ideal for transporting goods and companions.
- They are perfect for traversing huge maps, especially to and from remote or hard-to-reach areas.
Cons:
- Unlike Personal Portals, you cannot choose where to place Mystery Portals. You have to work with the given locations.
- You need to collect and use green crystals to activate each Portal, which can be a bit of a pain.
How to unlock mysterious portals
You need three green crystals to activate a mysterious portal in the world of soul mask.
These crystals are typically found throughout the game world, but if you want to farm them quickly, just look for them inside chests in the Ancient Ruins, Barbarian Fortress, Ancient Ruins Dungeon, Great Ancient Ruins, and Holy Ruins. Alternatively, they always drop from Temple Guardians.
Once you have the crystals, activate the Portal and it will become part of your fast travel network. You must activate the departure and destination portals to travel between them.
