Flights allowed at Fresno airport after global technology outage | YourCentralValley.com
FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – Travelers across the U.S. are facing delays and cancellations following a major global technology outage that occurred last night.
The outage linked to Microsoft systems has caused many frustrated travelers to rearrange their plans. Airlines, businesses and banks are affected as the cyber outage causes major disruption.
Nancy Moore was planning to go to Missouri last night, but to her surprise, her flight was delayed.
“Oh, we got here around 8:30 to check in, because we were supposed to be here two hours earlier, and we’re still here,” Nancy Moore said.
Other travelers like Ricardo Aguilar say there was limited information about why flights were changed. Aguilar, traveling to Guadalajara, Mexico, arrived at the airport at 11 p.m.
“Everything was working fine, my flight was delayed and I was waiting normally, but then things got crazy and nobody knows when they’re going to leave, nobody knows where the flight is, there are a lot of people up there just waiting, sleeping and stuff like that,” said Ricardo Aguilar.
Fresno native Juan Carlos Ruiz says he flies out of Fresno Yosemite International Airport every year, but has never experienced anything like this before.
“They kept us waiting for hours and hours, uh, in a big line that started to form and we got here, uh, almost four hours before our flight time and they put us in a line, you know, when I walked in, it was kind of weird because I had never seen that before,” said Juan Carlos Ruiz.
Vikkie Calderon, public information officer at Fresno Yosemite International Airport, says there have been dozens of delayed and canceled flights, and that you should continue to contact your airline for updates.
“Passengers should re-contact or stay in touch with their airline to find out the status of their flight before arriving at the airport, and if they are planning to arrive at the airport, plan extra time, extra time to check in, extra time to check in with their airline in case they have a connection somewhere that may be impacted by this previous technology issue.”
Although some flights are departing, it is unknown when all operations will return to full normal.
