Exploring emerging trends in government technology — ICYMI

Since 2019, Deloitte’s Center for Government Insights has published an annual report that outlines the top trends transforming government – not just technology trends, but also trends related to partnerships, policies, processes and people in the public sector.

Amid the current atmosphere of low levels of trust in governments around the world, this global analysis of trends offered reasons for hope. From significantly reducing the complexity of processes to using policy simulation models to explore the impact of potential changes, more than 200 real-world cases have been identified across the world, offering evidence that government is undergoing a radical transformation and achieve exponential growth.

Why exponential? While previous technological “revolutions” took many decades from the introduction of new technology until its impact on society was recognizable, mobile and digital technology have brought visible changes at a faster pace – and now AI is poised to transform society even faster. To take advantage of new technologies to improve services, governments will need to move faster than ever.

This new speed was among eight trends driving the “10x government of the future,” as well as unleashing productivity, increasing equity, and crossing borders to transform mission effectiveness.

William “Bill” Eggers, executive director of Deloitte’s Center for Government Insights, joined ICYMI to speak with e.Republic* President Dustin Haisler and Chief Innovation Officer Joe Morris about the report, the need of agility and real-world examples that give you reasons for optimism.
