Colorado Bagel Company Expands Business, Aims to Meet Community Needs with New Westside Market & Deli

Step into the new Colorado Bagel Company Westside Market & Deli (2851 Riverside Plaza) and you’ll find a tempting menu, diners sharing conversation, and a market that could save a trip across town.

“We have a ton of different delicious salads, including potato and pasta salad, cold sesame noodles, and take-out chicken salad,” said owner Julia Goldman. “We have a Reuben on marbled rye and our chef Patrick (Ayres) is from Louisiana, so we have gumbo, a shrimp po’boy and matzo ball soup.”

Westside Market & Deli opened a few weeks ago and will be an addition to Colorado Bagel Company’s Mountainside Sandwich Shop (1815 Central Park Drive).

Goldman said although the two locations are connected, they will offer different menu items and each will have its own identity. She hired chef Patrick Ayres to create a unique menu at the new location.

“You can get a lot of the same things, but the idea was that I didn’t want to imitate exactly what I do at the bagel shop,” Goldman said.

Mountainside Sandwich Shop will continue to offer bagels, breakfast sandwiches, smoked fish sandwiches and a selection of delicious sandwiches from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. – and recently expanded its offerings with Mountain Pizza, serving tavern-style and Detroit-style graham cracker pie Baked pizza from 3pm to 7pm, Thursday and Friday.

The menu also includes baked ziti, garlic knots and house and Caesar salads.

Goldman said he spent nearly a year renovating the space for the new Westside Market & Deli, which will be open from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., seven days a week. She purchased Colorado Bagel Company with her husband Mark six years ago and said the couple saw a need to expand to the West Side and offer food and services that weren’t available.

Ayres has a fresh menu with many appetizing options, and there is also a small market that offers products such as milk, bacon and other items.

“You can buy frozen sliced bagels to take home and things like that,” Ayres said. “There’s delicious fresh produce and they’ve done a great job of sourcing all the produce at the market with things you can’t find anywhere else. It’s a really unique place.”

Ayres said he will feature many flavors he brought from his home in Louisiana.

“We’re trying to be a New York-style deli, so we have a Reuben, and I’m from Louisiana, so we have some things from there, like shrimp po’boy and sausage gumbo. We’re also making matzo ball soup.”

Additionally, the market will offer bagels, spreads and vegetables, as well as coffee, baked goods and spicy gluten-free and vegan snacks.

“So far it’s all been word of mouth,” Goldman said of bringing customers to the Westside Market and Deli. “We’re getting really good, great feedback, which is really nice, and we’re really excited to be here. I’m so happy to be open.”
