Artisan Alley Market debuts in Colorado Springs | Art

A market is set to debut in Colorado Springs this weekend — complete with entertainment and treats.

On Saturday, Wreck’d Collective will hold its first Artisan Alley Market at the Cottonwood Center for the Arts’ Penrose Alley. The market will host local artists, makers and vintage vendors, as well as a variety of entertainment and food vendors.

“The goal is to bring artists, creators and investors together and give people the opportunity to see the creatives that are in Colorado Springs, and we try to focus on sustainability,” said Michelle Marchewka, co-founder of Wreck’d Collective and co-organizer of Artisan Alley Markets.

The market is scheduled for every third Saturday of the month, until September. After that, Marchewka hopes to move the festival indoors to adapt to winter conditions.

Painters, sculptors, jewelers and antique finds will be at the market. Meltdown, an ice cream truck, and Mountain Brews Coffee, a mobile coffee shop, will sell food and drinks at the event.

In addition to local art and food vendors, the market will host live demonstrations and performances. For this first market, there will be a demonstration by BRAT Fitness, an EDM dance exercise group, as well as a performance by singer and guitarist Alpha.

“We’re just trying to attract artists and bring the community together and give them an opportunity to get out and enjoy their city,” Marchewka said.

“See what it’s all about and check out Cottonwood at the same time. Cottonwood will be open while we do this, and people will be able to see all the artists that are there. They host over 70 different artists.”

Perhaps the best part: it’s free (parking too).

“It’s just a great way to bring people together to be able to experience art in our community,” Marchewka said.

“Our arts community is really growing and evolving, and we are so excited to be a part of it.”
