Altoona rescue looking for donations after cats found abandoned
ALTOONA, Pa. (WTAJ) – An Altoona cat rescue and lounge is looking for community help after taking in 15 cats that were left behind.
Second Chance Strays Cat Rescue & Lounge received a call about cats that were left behind in a home. They were told the intruders had been living in the house for two years, without electricity or running water, and when they were removed they left behind several cats and kittens.
The group worked quickly and arrived home with carriers to get as many cats as possible.
“As we moved deeper into the house, we discovered more and more cats,” Second Chance Strays Cat Rescue & Lounge said in a Facebook post.
The group added that the house was in poor condition, with feces, rubbish, needles and razor blades scattered throughout the house. They spend more than two hours catching cats and plan to return with traps to catch the rest.
The group is looking for donations to help with the cats’ medical care and spaying and neutering. They also need foster care and volunteers. In total, they took in 15 cats, including three that were only about 10 days old.
Here’s what they need:
- Dry food for kittens from IAM
- IAM adult dry food
- Wet kitten food
- Wet food for adults
- Nut litter
- Blankets
- Pitfalls
Summer Socie, owner of Second Chance Strays Cat Lounge, added that while they have already received interest in adopting some of the rescues, they are nowhere near ready to be adopted.
“A lot of people have contacted us about adopting some of the cats, but they are nowhere near ready, but we are trying to emphasize the amount of adoptable cats we have that are ready to be adopted now and are able to be visited. in our cat salon areas during business hours,” Socie said.
