The Lincoln Fire Department responded to a house fire in west Lincoln on Wednesday that left two cats dead, officials said.
At about 2:05 p.m., emergency services responded to reports of smoke coming from a home in the 1600 block of Tony Circle, LFR spokesman MJ Lierman said.
Firefighters arrived and were able to quickly extinguish the fire, which was contained to a room in the basement.
The residents were not home when the fire started. When they arrived and opened the door, they found a large amount of smoke, prompting them to call 911.
Two cats died in the fire. Another cat was rescued, Lierman said.
No other injuries were reported.
The fire caused an estimated $105,000 in damage to the home and $35,000 to the contents inside.

LFR initially escalated its response to the fire because it received information that another resident may have been inside the home, but the home was empty.
