In this week’s 16 To The Rescue, we meet a pair of cats rescued from a hoarding situation with over 20 others, but these two were meant to be together.
SCRANTON, Pennsylvania — Michael and Abraham need each other and, more importantly, they need a forever home.
The two cats have been living at the St. Cats and Dogs of Nay Aug Zoo in Scranton since January. They were rescued from what rescuers call a horrific hoarding situation. They say that considering the conditions they were found in, they can’t believe how sweet and friendly Michael and Abraham are.
“They actually come up to the front of the tent for attention, which you don’t always get in hoarding situations. And also, they’re really bonded with each other. They each know where they are, so they’re very gentle with each other, but also with people,” said Katrina Organ, St. Cats and Dogs at the Nay Aug Zoo.
Michael and Abraham’s personalities are a little different, but together they bring out the best in each other.
“They both like attention. You’ll see Abraham at the front of the cage more often and once he looks it over and decides it’s okay, Michael will often come up behind him and say ‘okay, looks good,'” Organ said.
Rescuers don’t know exactly how old they are, but they are likely both young adults. Soon after being rescued with more than 20 other cats, the volunteers decided that Michael and Abraham should be together.
“It’s so much fun to watch them play together and talk. You’d love to know what their conversation is like, right? I think they’d be playful with family too,” Organ said.
Michael and Abraham should be pretty easy to locate. All they need is the love and attention of a family that they lacked before they were rescued.
“There aren’t a lot of cats, just because when you’ve had to fight for food, that can be quite traumatic. We don’t foresee any issues with children. They can be a little nervous around dogs, again, just because of that traumatic environment,” Organ said.
